I was born in Houston, but grew up in the small town of Coatepeque, Guatemala, and moved to the U.S. at the age of 12. My long-time dream has been to become a neuroscientist, because in addition to plants, I also LOVE science. I am making small strides towards achieving this dream, and I am excited to say I am halfway through my first year of graduate school! It has been such a wild ride so far, and I know that I still have a long journey ahead, but I am excited to one day become a scientist and hopefully change lives through my research.
As you can probably already tell, in addition to science, I also love plants! I decided to start my small planter business during a rough time in my life when I was struggling with anxiety. For me, struggling with panic attacks and anxiety was one of the most difficult experiences that I have ever gone through. There were many days when the worries and negative feelings were greater than the positive ones. IT. WAS. HARD. But in the midst of it all, I was growing. I learned to slow down, and appreciate the little things in life. I learned to make time for the things that I love. And most importantly, I learned to focus on the present, and not dwell on the past. I am very grateful for my partner, David, who supported me without question when starting my small business. He does a lot of the heavy lifting (literally, because let’s be honest, I can’t carry a 90lbs bag of concrete!) and has even learned to make the planters. Together, we hope to keep growing and making a difference in our community. And we hope that our little planters serve as a seed of light, and become a reminder of hope during tough times. Whether you buy a planter to brighten up your space, or brighten someone else’s day, we hope that it makes someone smile!
As a small, local business, we have a very important mission in our community: do good and spread kindness! We are fully devoted to increasing awareness about mental health (by sharing personal stories, and creating a space where everyone feels comfortable and invited!). We are also fully committed to helping make our world a greener and more eco-friendly place! We are want to do this by being mindful about the way we create our products–and increasing more awareness about climate change. You can help us become more eco-friendly by recycling the paper bags that we use to wrap your planters! Together, we can make a difference starting in our very own community. <3
My long-term goals are to become a neuroscientist, and devote my research to better understanding the underlying mechanisms of mental illness. We all struggle at one point or another, we’re human, but I want my products to be a little reminder that you’re never alone, and that there is a community filled with love and support cheering you on!
